You Have 11 Days to Claim Up to $51 From Amazon. Most Won't.

Amazon's $2.5 billion FTC settlement leaves a claim window that closes July 27, 2026. Up to $51 per person, no receipts needed, and one 10-minute form. The scam sites are already out. Here is how to file cleanly.

If you ever signed up for Amazon Prime by accident and could not figure out how to cancel it, Amazon owes you money. The claim window closes July 27, and the check is up to $51. That is 11 days from today.

You do not need receipts. You do not need to remember your old passwords. You need about ten minutes.

The FTC hit Amazon with a $2.5 billion settlement last year over what regulators called “manipulative, coercive, or deceptive user-interface designs” that pushed shoppers into Prime and then buried the cancel button. $1.5 billion of that goes back to Prime members. The other $1 billion is a civil penalty (source). Amazon does not admit wrongdoing. It just writes the checks.

Most of the money already went out the door. Amazon sent automatic refunds to the easiest-to-identify eligible members in November and December 2025 (source). If you got one, you are done. The July 27 deadline is for everyone else, the harder-to-match accounts where the settlement administrator needs you to raise your hand.

Here’s what they don’t tell you. The people most likely to qualify are the ones least likely to notice: readers who tried Prime once, forgot they were paying $14.99 a month or $139 a year, never used Prime Video or free shipping much, and eventually canceled or got auto-billed for years. That is exactly the “used no more than three Prime benefits in any 12-month period” category the FTC calls out. If that sounds like you, this is not a lottery ticket. It is a small refund you already earned.

Real money. Not life-changing, but real. $51 is a tank of gas plus lunch. Or a month of a decent HYSA’s interest on $15,000 of savings. Skipping the form because it feels small is the bank’s bet, except this time the bank is Amazon.

The scam sites are already up. Search “Amazon Prime settlement” and you will find lookalike pages that ask for a fee, your Social Security number, or your bank login. Ignore them. The FTC says explicitly: filing is free, and it will never ask for payment or your SSN to send a settlement refund (source).

Do this now. Open ftc.gov/enforcement/refunds/amazon-refunds, click through to the official settlement administrator (subscriptionmembershipsettlement.com), and file. Have your Amazon email address ready. If more than one household member had Prime, each person files separately. Payments in this batch are expected around September 2026.

If you’re not eligible, the same 30 seconds of checking gives you a clean “no” and you move on with your day.

The July 27 deadline is a hard cutoff. Miss it and the money goes back into the settlement pot for administration costs. That is worse than Amazon keeping it.

Check today. Set a reminder for the weekend if you have to. Do not push this to the last Sunday of the month.

Frequently asked questions

Who qualifies for the Amazon Prime FTC settlement refund?

U.S. Prime members whose accounts fall inside the class period of June 23, 2019 to June 23, 2025 and who match the settlement's specific enrollment and low-usage criteria (broadly, signup through a challenged enrollment flow and use of no more than three Prime benefits in any 12-month period after signup, or a failed online cancellation). The exact eligibility rules live at the settlement administrator's site linked from the FTC page. If you already got an automatic refund in November or December 2025, you are done and do not need to file.

How much can I actually get back?

Refunds are capped at $51 per eligible person, equal to actual Prime fees you paid during the class period minus any refunds, credits, or chargebacks you already received. If your qualifying Prime charges totaled less than $51, you get that lower amount.

Where do I file the claim?

Start at the FTC page at ftc.gov/enforcement/refunds/amazon-refunds and follow the link to the official settlement administrator at subscriptionmembershipsettlement.com. Filing is free. The FTC will never ask you to pay a fee or hand over your Social Security number or bank login to collect a settlement refund. Any site that asks for that is a scam.
