That $95 Annual Fee Isn't Final When It Posts. Here's Your Window to Get It Back.
Federal rules make card issuers warn you before an annual fee renews and reverse it if you cancel in time. Amex refunds it for 30 days after the statement. CFPB data shows big issuers charge a fee on 25% of their card plans versus 4% at smaller issuers. Here's the move before your anniversary.
Credit Score 620 to 719? The Biggest Card Issuers' Median APR Is 28.49%. Smaller Banks and Credit Unions Charge 15.99%.
We counted the CFPB's latest card-terms survey. For new accounts opened by people with scores from 620 to 719, the median purchase APR across big-issuer card plans was 28.49%, against 15.99% at smaller banks and credit unions. On a $5,000 balance that's roughly $625 a year. Here's how to check which side of that line your card sits on.
Your Dentist Can't Sign You Up for a 32.99% Card in the Chair. In Connecticut, That Starts January 1.
Connecticut's Public Act 26-6 takes effect January 1, 2027. Doctors, dentists and vets can't fill out medical credit card applications for you, pitch them while you're sedated, or take a cut for pushing them. The deferred-interest math the law is about: miss a 12-month promo on $3,000 by $120 and you owe roughly $550 in back interest.

Credit card questions, answered.
How do credit card rewards actually work?
Rewards cards earn points, miles, or cash back on every dollar you spend. Rates are written as a multiplier: 2x means 2 points per dollar. The value of a point depends on how you redeem it. Cash back is the simplest version: 2% cash back means $20 back for every $1,000 you charge. The card only pays off if you pay the balance in full every month. Otherwise the APR eats the rewards.
What credit score do I need to get approved for a rewards card?
Most premium rewards cards want a good-to-excellent score, typically 670 or higher by FICO standards. No-annual-fee and balance transfer cards are more forgiving, often approving applicants in the 650 to 680 range. Below 620, look at secured cards first and build the score before chasing rewards.
Is an annual fee credit card worth it?
Do the math. Add up the concrete benefits you will actually use, then subtract the annual fee. If you do not travel or spend in the right categories, a no-fee 2% cash back card usually beats a fee card. The issuer's bet is that you pay the fee and forget to use the perks. Don't let them win.
