If you paid a State Farm auto premium in 2025, a payment averaging about $100 per vehicle is on its way to you. As of yesterday, it still had not landed. It is coming, and the version that shows up first will almost certainly be the scam.
State Farm announced the dividend on February 26, 2026. Five billion dollars, spread across more than 49 million vehicles. It is the largest one-time dividend in the mutual’s 103-year history. The company said the money would go out “this summer,” in waves by state.
We are five months in and ConsumerAffairs confirmed on July 21 that payments have not begun. State Farm’s own dividend page now says late summer 2026.
Here’s what they don’t tell you when a real settlement takes months to move: scammers watch the same news you do. Every time a big insurer announces a payout, the phone calls and text messages start. They will ask you to “verify” your policy, pay a small “processing fee,” or click a link to “claim” the money. That is always the tell. Real dividends do not ask you to claim them.
The math is straightforward. Five billion dollars, split roughly evenly across 49 million vehicles, works out to about $100 a car. Your share moves with the state your policy is written in and what you paid in premium during 2025. Not life-changing on any single vehicle, but real money if you cover two.
This is how a real notice works, so you can recognize one. State Farm hired Veritas as the payment administrator. If your State Farm account has a current email on file, Veritas emails you with a link into a portal where you pick digital payment or a mailed check. If no email is on file, a paper check goes to your mailing address. Either way, you do not fill out a form to claim it. You do not pay a fee. You do not hand over your bank login.
Do this now. Log into your State Farm account and check that the email address on file is one you actually read, and that the mailing address is current if you moved. Two minutes of work. If you skip it, the real notice either never reaches you or lands next to three fake ones and you can not tell which is which.
Watch the mail. Delete anything that asks you to “claim” the dividend or “verify” your policy. Do not click links in unexpected texts. If a call feels off, hang up and call State Farm directly at 1-800-STATE-FARM or your agent’s local number.
For state-specific timing, State Farm has posted 1-888-808-9532 and sfdividend.com. Bookmark those, not whatever URL a stranger sends you.
Two things this dividend is not. It is not the same as State Farm’s 6.2% California auto rate cut, which was approved March 4 and took effect May 8 on renewals. It is also not connected to State Farm’s homeowners book. Auto only. Homeowners policies, including in Florida and California where premiums have been going the other way for years, get none of this.
File this one away, but not for long. Update your account details today, watch your mail for a real Veritas notice this fall, and trash anything that asks for your money to give you money back. That is always the con.
